Puppy!!!

by admin on Jul.12, 2010, under Misc

Well if the title isn’t clear enough my fiancée and I got a puppy yesterday. This was a well thought out yet spur of the moment thing. She had wanted a dog for a while and I was holding off till we were done with school but it isn’t every day you find almost pure bred baby pit bulls being given away.

Story and more pictures after the break…

No such thing as a phone?

by admin on Jun.30, 2010, under Computer, Misc

A week ago I joined the ever growing group of people with smart phones. I had some thoughts about smart phones in general and the different types before I got mine and have had some time to get used to mine over the last week.

If you care to hear my thoughts read on…if not then feel free to go about your day.

HID’s installed…finally!

by admin on Jun.09, 2010, under Misc, Motorcycles

As I had mentioned in previous posts I have been planning for a while now to install HID headlights in my 1000RR. I just had a few snags along the way. Originally my fiancée bought me a set for Christmas this past year, as it turned out months later when I went to install them (waited for better weather) they were the wrong bulb type. Of course having waited months to install them I couldn’t just return them, so they will be on ebay soon. I finally got around to ordering them and realized that while I was at it I would get a set for my truck too. I was super excited the day they came and went out to put the set in my truck first. I figured that I would have more room to work which would make the truck a better candidate for my first install then the bike would be second as it would likely be trickier…I was clearly wrong with this logic. After many hours of messing with them (4 or 5 to be entirely honest) and a few people looking with me I accepted defeat for the night and decided I would call the manufacturer the following day. Long story short there was one connector on each side that needed to be flipped on a select few vehicles, mine just happened to be one of them.

Install and pics after the break.

Details Make the Difference

by admin on May.22, 2010, under Motorcycles

As with most projects attention to detail can make or break the outcome. A vehicle is no different. When I decided to change the fairings on the my 1000RR I knew there were a few other things that went with it. Luckily for me the previous owner had intended to do the same thing and already took care of the hardest details for me.

The bike originally had a silver swing arm and silver rider and passenger pegs. These had already been powder coated before I got it. The exhaust was also switched out for a carbon fiber can instead of the stainless it once had. The easy details I was left with were the rim tape which I just installed today and HID’s that are in the mail as I’m posting this.

Since the weather cooperated and I just got my front stand back from a friend that was borrowing I decided now was as good a time as any to clean it real well and put the rim tape on. With a little patience the tape went no relatively easy and I will leave it up to you to decide if you like the outcome or not…I love it!

Peppermint

by admin on Apr.27, 2010, under Computer, Misc

I seem to get busier that I ever thought imaginable the end of every semester and this spring is no exception. I addition to all my school work and student related duties I was offered the opportunity to take part in a private beta test of a new operating system.

For anyone that reads posts here regularly you know that I have taken quite an interest in Linux in the last few months. With this interest came a few new people I started following on twitter that share a passion for Linux. One of these people happens to be the developer responsible for maintaining the Linux Mint LXDE Distribution. He decided to start up a side project called Peppermint that is a fork of Lubuntu and Linux Mint. This is where I got to help in a small way.

New Skin

by admin on Mar.28, 2010, under Home, Motorcycles

I posted up last fall some time about a set of HANNspree fairings I ordered for my 1000RR. Well now that the weather was finally starting to act like spring I planned a trip home to pick the bike up and while I was there swap the old fairings for the new. We had beautiful weather all last week and I was really itching to get the bike together and ride. The weekend finally came and the night before I left they got 2 inches of snow where I was planning on working on the bike. I suggested bringing the bike in the house to work on it (thinking that would not go over well with mom). Turns out inside and close to the fire place was the preferred place to work.

I did a lot of reading before starting this project to find out what I was in for and while I had a good idea I still wasn’t expecting quite what we experienced. I was thinking it would be a 4-5 hour job…in reality it was more like a 8-9 hour job with 3 helpers…

I don’t have before pics right now since dad took those on his camera, but it was an all black bike with a good bit of road rash on the left side. I’ll just start right in with the pictures:

Here is the disassembled bike in the dinning room.

Moderate Over-Kill

by admin on Mar.24, 2010, under Computer, Misc

I have posted several times on here about building my own desktop. And I have been very pleased with the outcome as well as it’s performance. However, I have this way of not being able to leave anything alone.

Just the other day I ran across a CPU cooler from ThermalTake on clearance. I really didn’t have any complaints with the cooler that came with my processor but I couldn’t pass up 75% off and the cool factor of a fancier cooler. What I didn’t realize until it arrived in the mail just how much bigger this was going to be than what I already had.

*#$&~ @^!? Microsoft

by admin on Feb.26, 2010, under Computer

For a while now I have been teetering between Windows and Linux. Like many people I have thought about switching all the way over to Linux but have that one program (or two or three) that has me turning back to windows. Lately I have been working in Linux (Mint to be specific) for some school projects.

My financee just bought a netbook to accompany her desktop. Both of us have been using Windows 7 on our desktops for a few months and so far short of one persistent printer headache have liked it. She was really excited that her new HP mini was going to come with 7 unlike my Eee that came with XP. I have to compliment here for getting it setup as well as she did seeing as I am the tech one.

Alice…

by admin on Feb.23, 2010, under Misc

The newest version of Alice in Wonderland featuring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, and Anne Hathaway among others is coming out in less than a month. My Fiancee and I are both pretty excited to see it since she is a big fan of Tim Burton and I think Johnny Depp should make a phenomenal mad hatter.

Most movies like this everyone raves you need to read the book* before seeing the movie. I am going to be honest with my self, I don’t have the time in my schedule to read it before the new movie movie is released. Next best thing would be to watch the most popular movie rendition, produced by Disney in 1951. Even with all the Disney movies I watched as a kid I had never seen this one, at least not that I could remember.

Which Resume?

by admin on Feb.16, 2010, under Computer, Misc

I have been trying to get everything in order to start pursuing a job after I graduate. There is an informational meeting this Thursday so I figured I should have my resume prepared if nothing else. The last few times I revamped my resume I just saved my old one and changed a few lines in Word. Everytime I end up having to change everything to make it look right. I decided to try LaTeX this time since I have been learning it lately for my thesis. Below there are three different formats that I think look alright. What I am going to ask you to do is ask you to give me feedback on both the appearance and content (all three have the same content pretty much). You can leave a comment, send me an email, post on twitter, or leave a comment on facebook (lots of options here).

Here goes, this is the first and my favorite:
Resume #1

Here is the second one my list:
Resume #2

And finally my least favorite, but still in consideration:
Resume #3

Thank you for looking, I hope everyone can give me some feedback. I know what I like but I want to know what you think…
